What about penning your rooster with one hen that doesn't pek his head and give him a chance to heal. He might not put us such a squabble if he has a companion.

That is a good idea, we have to buy a separate coop for them though, it might be worth the money even for the future in case something like this happens again. Will have to look for an affordable secure one as we have many night time predators here.
