So I put a one day old with my three day old chicken today and the oldest keep pecking the young one and hard. Is this common or should I separate them?

I disagree, chickens and even chicks do a pecking order in order to tell who’s top of the pecking order and who’s at the bottom. You need to leave the younger and the older chick together so they can learn the pecking order, if you where to separate them at this age they will not like eachother at all when older and adults. I suggest leave them together for 2 weeks while of course checking for bleeding and any injuries and if bleeding or an injury does a cure then you should separate them. The pecking will continue as that’s just what chickens do, only seperate them if the pecking is severeWould be good to split your brooder with a wire wall.
Where/why are you getting single chicks?
How many and how old will the 'end of the week' chicks be.
Why I suggested splitting the brooder.I suggest leave them together for 2 weeks while of course checking for bleeding and any injuries and if bleeding or an injury does a cure then you should separate them.
Glad to hear it didn't get too nasty.Thank you. The pecking has stopped that later in the day. The reason why I have random chickens is because I thought that they where duck eggs when they got placed in the incubator.
