it has! I fenced an acre of property for the chickens to free range during the day. I open the gate at night for the dogs to do their security details.
When you first introduce your dogs to them keep them on a leash, one at a time. They may be fine around other animal or even chickens but they react differently in every situation. If they happen to attack one it will be hard to keep them from doing it again.
Ah, thanks about the vinegar. I'll try that to get him discouraged. As to how they will react. Unfortunately I am already guessing (decided) towards the negative. One has a high squirrel kill count and the two of them together have killed two feral cats. So I'm pretty sure their prey drive is going to count out any possibility of getting along with a flock. We will definitely be taking every precaution we can.
not dumb at all. i actually have clear plastic on the bottom 3ft of the covered run to block winter wind. there are definite pee stains in areas. it hoses down well but it’s to hot in the summer to keep it up year round.
i have 3 security dogs and one of them is quite homicidal, i’d never trust any of them with my birds ever. there is 1 exception though. my homicidal dog become very attached to the lone survivor of a power outage incubation issue. since it was our only chick at the time it was constantly held. the dog ended up becoming very attached to the chicken and still remains attached to him. they hang out along the fence line now. the dog only likes that 1 chicken though so he’s not allowed through the gate.
