My sweet husband is addicted (yay!) I just caught him in the brooder room. He had gone to McDonalds for a sundae and they gave him a little bag of chopped nuts....He was crushing them up about to give the babies a "treat". What am I gonna do with him?!?!

Awww! I love it when we can lure them in!

Thats great that your hubby loves the chicks! Mine didn't want any part of them, now he has them so spoiled it's not funny. He's even named some of them! I had too many roo's last year, and was going to have some processed, I thought he was going to cry! Ended up having to rehome them rather than process them.

It gives you more in common and strenghtens your relationship!

Exactly! I was going to process a couple that weren't doing their job and DH said "You wouldn't eat our babies, would you?!" In the most horrified voice imaginable. I rehome.

Aww, that's great!

My husband loves our babies too. He built their brooder and we are going to be cleaning out the coop this weekend in preparation for when they move out there in a few weeks. He is already talking about wanting more! YAY!

Awwww......Isn't it awesome!!! I'm just getting ready to strt my coop, Ive been planning and have materials, but it rained last weekend and that delayed me....HE is already wanting to make it bigger!

Now the processing.....Hima nd the kids are already giving me grief!! and I want BOTH meat and eggs......I was thinking if I get a bunch of meaties in the summer, they'll want to be rid of them...kinda break the ice...

I'm so happy for you! I'm still waiting for my DH to come around. At first he didn't want anything to do with them, now he seems to be enjoying them being around. He is really enjoying the eggs and likes to see them in the yard (the snow has gone down quite a bit, until the next storm!). I think we're getting to him! YEA!

We were really fortunate, the folks we bought our house/property from had kept chickens in the past, so there is a coop/yard already in place. We just need to clean it all out. I also am trying to find an affordable used brush cutter, because the yard is overrun with weeds. I guess in the worst case, we can try to use our weed-wacker out there, but it's kind of a fussbudget, so I don't know how well that will work!

My husband is also already talking about how to expand things! We have twenty chicks, and all have survived so far - they are straight run, so we'll undoubtedly have to cull some roosters out of the bunch. We're both willing to do it, just need to make sure we do it humanely.

I want to get some Black Copper Marans and he wants some Black Jersey Giants next time around. I am also thinking about learning out to tie fly fishing lures (our neighbor gives classes), so I'm trying to determine the best breeds for that purpose.

I hope that your family will warm up to the idea with the meaties - if their response is anything like my husbands, the appearance of those birdies isn't going to appeal to them at all, so maybe they won't get attached to them?

husbands are as cute as the chicks when they think there cute
