A friend of mine put some of my silkie eggs in her incubator, we're new a hatching in one, usually let the hens do it. Anyhow, she heard peeping last night but now everything is still and quiet. Why would they not hatch at this late date?

This has happened to me too. I had about 10 eggs in an incubator. On the day they were supposed to hatch, I had some one try to pick up the incubator. All I could do was put it back and wait to see what happened. At about day 29 (these were duck eggs), I started to hear tons of peeping (all of which were from two chicks trying to hatch). So I waited until they stopped peeping. On day 31, I knew they were all dead, so I opened up the eggs to see what happened. They were all upside down, but one (that did not quite make it though the air sac). Sorry about your chick... :(

Are your vents open? What is the humidity level?

I don't know but I'll ask her and find out. Maybe we can avoid this in the future.
