Surprise in the barn this morning.. the Coco Maran who went missing again a month ago came out from hiding with more peeps than I can count! Settled her in nice nest box with her brood so they feel safer. When will it stop? I have one hen that has hatched peeps since Feb and now this sneaky one. I never intended to go into the farm raised chicken business

I love stories like that. Happens to a felllow around here all the time with his silkies. I have a broody in the coop right now, setting on 8 eggs, but I swear she's too dumb to set on them in the bushes, she'd lose her nest. So, winter chicks here, too. Maybe!

I guess she had other plans for you!

Temps here in MI were in the 60's for a few days; back down in the 40's now and I've got a black australorp as well as a bantam cochin that are broody! I'm tempted to let the little cochin sit on a standard egg or two!

Goofy (that's the hens name) brought them outside to share, hubby says 15 but they were moving so fast I could not tell.
