She is definitely a keeper!

I would definitely get that girl a safe place to keep those babies. She has hatched you an entire flock all on her own. Wow! I imagine she'll need your help to keep them warm.

We are making mods to the very large brooder box so she can come and go and I can turn on the heat lamp and she can settle them wherever she feels the need. Hubby is adding a door to the box. Currently she is happy taking them to a large wooden box full of shavings and they settle in the back where you can hardly see her

During the day she is keeping them away from the other free rangers that roam the barn. Luckily there is a chicken side and a horse side and she is in the horse side by herself. They weathered the snow today really well.

What a fantastic broody! There is nothing better than surprises like that!

HELP! Just noticed my silkie has something peeping under her. I have no idea what to do or do I need to do anything. I live in Maine and the weather will be getting cold very soon. Do I need to put the chicks and mom in my heated garage? What do the chicks eat?? Should I just let nature do her thing, really don't want to have these babies die, my kids would be horrified!

my momma hen is happy sleeping in the wooden box on the ground. In the morning she takes them out and first stop is the feeder with chick starter and then the waterer. My hens are very good about showing the chicks what to eat from the scratch, green grass, dirt

and corn. I really don't do much.. I will be relocating her box to a spot where I have a heat lamp but for right now they are small enough to stay covered by her feathers. If they seem to be eating, scratching and sticking close to mom they are okay. Just have food and water avail and they should be okay.
