Peeps it's all your fault!!!!

Thanks Peeps. I am going with a puter fan since I do have access to various sizes of them. I was just a bit confused because when I was reading about the LG fan kit they have it mounted to the top of the lid over the heat element facing down at the eggs and I knew I had read on here to face the fan up away from the eggs.

I have the bater plugged in and it has been holding steady temp of 99.5, based on the LG thermometer at least. But at least I know it works.

I am so excited!!!!!!

Having the fan pointed up will spread the air more evenly and you will find less variations over the whole incubator. If it looks like the fan is going to seal itself against the cover though Put a couple of washers as spacers between the fan and the cover so the air has a place to escape.

Gawd you guys this makes me want to crack open my Hovabater 1588 and maybe try some Trader Joes eggs for a first hatch. I want to add some chickens to my poultry but don't want to risk the breeds i really want for a first go-round. Hmmm there are some places around here selling yard eggs..... too.

I went to make my grandkids some scrambled eggs this morning with our chicken eggs, we have 3 that have just started laying, and I was so used to cracking guinea eggs, I smashed them a tad hard on the edge of the bowl. My grandson said, Ahma, these aren't guinea eggs ya know. LOL.

I had to re-home my roo so I won't have any fertile chicken eggs, but boy I will have some fertile guinea eggs to hatch out next season, AND I always see people selling interesting eggs, and as long as Peeps doesn't start hatching Emu's or Ostriches or something and posting pics, and getting us all hooked, I should be okay.

Do it do it do it! 1588's are magic, I'm tellin' ya. Just add eggs and water and poof... babies! Trader Joes eggs for a test run is a good idea... I've heard about people hatching out quite a few chicks from those, l have no idea what breed tho

That Do it Do it Do it remindse me of a commercial somehow...... LOL usually they are a sexlink byproduct of some sort. When you breed a sexlink to a pure bred you get what ever daddy was. I have followed the thread for a while now and out of a dozen you may get three or four max.

So.... when I open the box i assume there is not a digital thermometer/hygrometer in there. Walmart? RadioShack? Is there a kind that has a sensor you can put inside and a readout that stays outside...? like for an Oven? Gawd I dont believe I am actually considering this.....

LOL, I was just on radio shack and Ace's web sites looking for exactly that. My eyes are old and I would love to have one with a remote sensor and wondering how accurate they would be.

The kind I was thinking of has a cable that gets shut in the oven door. So in that case it would be accurate. Its just a matter of finding out if there is a Temp/hydro sensor made the same way.

I LOVE my 1588. In the winter I wrap it in a towel and it does great. Right now I'm doing staggered hatches and just let them hatch in there with all of the eggs and I never have a problem. I do add water now and then and toss guinea eggs in when I find them. I'm trying not to let them set because of predators but if I take all of their eggs away I'll just have to find out where they're laying next.

Good luck with your incubator - Throw a towel over it! Throw in some eggs first!

found
one that has high enough tolerances:

Remote Digital Thermometer and Relative Humidity (RH) Sensor
The remote ambient temperature / relative humidity sensor is mounted on a cord over 7’ long. Place the highly accurate sensor inside a desiccator, refrigerator, drying or other environmental chamber and view displays of temperature or RH together with their min/max readings on the monitor outside. Select ºC or ºF and min/max temperature and RH alarms. When these parameters are exceeded an audible alarm sounds. Stands or wall mounts. Takes 1 AAA Battery. Dim: 4 1/8” X 2 ¾” X 6/8” (105 X 70 X 20 mm). Weight: 3 oz (85 g).

There is a dual price on this. One with certification and one without. The certification will be for industry or laboratories. Where accountiblity to an inspection process will be required. Its the same tool.

Without certification it runs 49.50
