Milestone today! My peeps (8 weeks) went into the coop tonight by themselves!!! I put food and water in coop and then waited for dusk (added some scratch).

I was so excited to see they went in by themselves!!! Tomorrow son has a baseball practice, so I'll try to put in food and water early to see if can get them to go in tomorrow.

Honestly, I thought they would never figure it out. They have been in the coop for about 3 weeks and I have been putting them in the coop each night.

I put my 5 week old chicks into the coop Saturday. Kept them in the coop for an hour so they learned where food and water were. Turned on the auto door and it opened. They headed out cautiously. Played outside all day long, and went in and out for water all day. As it got cooler, they went back in where the IR light was.

As of today, they go out when the door opens, or hang out at the door until it warms up outside, and then they play, going in and out. I did add a waterer outside later on. They were all in before the auto door closed last night, but I still check on them, and they are in a secure run for now, with no access to free range for the moment.

Your chickens are smarter than mine!! I had light on also early on. Didn't work until added the scratch bribe.
