I never had ducks before, always wanted them just never really spent the time to go and do something about it. Mine were a week old when I got them. I never thought I could love these creatures as much as I do. They are so beautiful. I could never eat these guys. They are my babies. Boy are they great in keeping the snail population down in your garden too.

Ducks are messy but the poop is great for the garden. They are social animals so don't just get one or they will be very noisy. I have three and they are just so great together they follow each other around and you as well. If you want them as a pet you need to spend time with them, talk to them. My husband who has never really had pets in his young life absolutely loves them. He is always with them when he sits outside and drinks his coffee. The more time you spend with them the more timid and lovable they are as you can see the pic my daughter had them sleeping on her. They sit in our laps just make sure you aim the bottom of the side of your leg then the projectiles land on the ground lol not on you. But if you are afraid of poop then don't get a duck as yes they are very messy.

Our ducks love water. We have verge pickups here in Australia and usually people throw away the shells for kids sand pits or old bath tubs. So we got a bath tub and my husband dug a hole in the ground then placed rocks at the base and around so that we could drain the bath tub regularly as they poop in the water and you don't want it to get toxic. you will need to put a grid or some bricks in the bath tub to give them a helping hand in getting out.

For bedding we use shade cloth, yes seems odd but they love it and its easy to clean just put the hose on it near the garden and the poop goes through and into the garden. Just pop it over a bush or rosemary like we have in our yard and it gets fertilized at the same time.

Pekin's look pretty much the same so its a bit hard to tell who is who but we have found that our three have a unique personality of their own. One has very thin legs one has very stumpy legs and if you have a male then that's easy. Peppa is a squealer she squeals when you pick her up a real baby. Pekky she just loves to peck at your jewellery and Eddie well he is the boy. But we watch them any chance we get and soon see the difference in them. My cats are great with them the dog loves them.

Give them a nice home, clean it out regularly, feed them, water them and you will have a great pet.

Give them a go they are awesome as pets

I've been thinking about getting ducks and planning their coop and run... The bathtub idea is great also! I am still undecided and getting pekins or runner ducks though. Also your ducks are beautiful!
