I saw there was a KC thread, but...holy cow! It's 94 pages long! So I'm just going to put all my duck questions here LOL!

We have 3 Pekins (Jemima Puddle Duck, Bunny and our drake, Rasputin). They are 18ish weeks old. We also have 4 KC's. They are about 12 weeks old, and I think from their quacks we have 2 girls and 2 boys. They all live in our large run with our chickens. The KC's sleep under the nest boxes in the coop, but the Pekins like to stay out in the run at night by the pool, just as background info.

Pekin question. I found my very first egg laying by the pool in the dirt yesterday. I'm assuming it was one of the Pekins. The KCs aren't fully feathered yet, and the egg was white (all our chickens are brown egg layers, and haven't started laying yet). It was very small...about 2/3 the size of a normal chicken egg. I understand that's pretty normal for chickens and ducks, that their first few eggs are small and eventually get to full size. No egg today. That's normal, right? I didn't expect them to lay every day, but still...we were SO excited to get our first egg yesterday after a long 18 week wait! I never thought the ducks would lay before the chickens, either!

KC question. We bought them at Tractor Supply and they were labled Khaki Campbells. But they aren't brown. They've always been gray. They are 12 weeks old, starting to get adult feathers, and are still pretty gray. Their bills and feet are a greenish gray. There is just no brown on them at all. I keep wondering if the brown comes once they are fully feathered? Also, at what age do they start laying? They sleep at night in the little cubbies under our nest boxes, so can I assume that might be where they eventually lay, as opposed to outside in the dirt like the Pekins?

This is our family's first go with chickens and ducks. It's been a learning curve, but we love our birds! Thanks for answering my questions!
