what do you think about the pekin bantams chicken breed?
I am getting some chicks soon and I'm thinking about getting a rooster to but not sure, the breeder has both smooth pekin bantams and frizzle so I was thinking maybe get 2 frizzled and maybe 1-2 smooth (depends on how many beautiful colors will be awaleble) but I'm think is it better to get frizzled rooster if I want to keep on owning frizzle hens or?

also, the breeder tells me these hens don't lay werry well because there always broody, I have silkies that are often broody, but the lay well when they are not broody, are the peking bantam okey layers when they are not broody to?

heres a picture of the breed

oh okey didn't know that, thank you I then get smooth hens if I will get a rooster, I haven't decided yet if I getting a rooster or not :)

I love my bantam Cochins! (Pekins)
I have a little mottled cockerel named Frodo and a 6 or 7 week old buff named Pippin.
Frodo is a good boy who will let me pick him up even though he really doesn’t enjoy it.
He’s never aggressive towards me or any of the other chicks really.

My Perkins and Pekin mixes lay very well 4+ a week but collect eggs daily they go broody really really easily . I was gone over the weekend and Tribbles was broody on her 3 eggs . Pekin rooster tend to be non aggressive but are breeding fiends. I have standards with a full size RIR rooster. When I hatched eggs this spring all 24 Chicks had feathered legs... My Brody was renamed Don Juan and he isn't allowed to forage with the big Girls anymore.:lau:thumbsup

thank you, your hens are beautiful :)
I do not mind having broody hen, infact I do have few breeds that I did get because I knew the would go broody, like I have silkies, icelandic hens, and brahma that go often broody, I will probably have my pekin hens in the same coop as my silkies :)

I was mostly just thinking how kinda layers they are, thank you for your answer on that, I think 4+ eggs on a week is really good so that's great to hear :)

I contacted the breeder not long ago and she will be able to figure out which gender the chicks are in middle or end of June so it's really soon, I'm so exited :love

I got some chicks yesterday, I don’t know what gender they are, I got 3 frizzled and 3 smooth and i’m getting more frizzled later, these 3 frizzle where all she had left but I’m first in line now for frizzled chicks from the next hatch .

The smooth ones look like 1 rooster and 2 hens but there still 3 weeks old chicks so everything could change

I think i’m going to keep smooth rooster and frizzled hens (and of course also the 2 other smooth chicks if there hens) but still decideing tho, I will see who will be the most beautiful of the roosters, right now I think the smooth chick that I think is a rooster is the most beautifully so I will probably choose him ❤️

Here are 2 girl (I think) that I got yesterday, they are 6 weeks old
