Pekin broody in the woods...?

I have 2 Pekins nesting in the woods. I heard it's unlikely for them to be good mothers. My question is, they set all day, and want to come in late after the others are turned in. Is this normal for them to leave the nest over night?
I tried feeding one when she came up late, close to dark, but she just circled the coop and didn't go back to the nest, so I let her in.
It's only been 2 days since their setting.
I just checked one nest, and the eggs are gone...think my dog ate them. I can put more tomorrow, but this doesn't sound right...what do you all think?

Hhhmm, doesn't sound like they've totally committed...

Disclaimer: I have no firsthand broody experience so this will be more of a bump than anything else

If you'd like to set more eggs under them I would wait until they are staying on at night. Then would it be possible to move them somewhere perdator safe (like a broody coop or big dog crate?)?

Good luck!

Well one nest only had 3 eggs left this morning, there were at least 10. She never went back to it.
The other nest seems like she's trying to collect a batch before setting. Whenever she sees me, she comes running and throws herself on the nest. I don't know how I would ever move her, because Pekins are super skiddish. I can't even get near her now, she litterally lunged at me, and broke an egg in attempt to bite me. She's all fluffed up and MAD.
Gosh they are nothing like chickens.

Can you give them something in a pen(like a dog house or crate) for them to lay eggs in... My mallard took over a small gog house and started laying in there... after she startesd laying I gave her hay to make her nest...
