My 2 yr old female pekin has something strange coming from her vent. I left the clock out this morning and walked them to our backyard on a lake. Henrietta ( 2yr jumbo pekin) was injured last year and limps, so I went to go find her to bring her to the lake to wash and play as she is just slower than her flock. As I huddled her down, I noticed something grayish- white dangling from her behind. She was okay last night putting them to bed and no predators could have gotten them. This object was attached to a very red pinky size organ that protruded from her vent. I let her bathe so I could get a clear view of what was going on. The grayish 'thing' at first looked like a necrotic fetus (though this is impossible) with slight visuals of a soft shell. I have photos to reference. BTW, she is a hen. So it could not be a penis, we have drakes, we know the diff. It doesn't look like a prolapsed vent either. Anyways, I let her get cleaned up and I brought to our garage to separate from flock. She had a tiny bit of food but is more interested in drying off. She doesn't seem to be stressed or in pain. Her bowel movements have been a mostly clear liquid only the size of a half dollar that runs down this thing and drips to the floor.

*update To add, she's no longer bleeding near her vent since her swim right away, and just took a big poo of mostly clear with white. She's lied down and is quiet but alert. Happy and normal behavior.

Can you disconnect the blob from the pinkish part?
The blob looks sorta like a large lash egg. Just wondering if the pink part might go back inside it the other wasn't attached to it.

@casportpony
thought to try that this evening when my husband gets home so I have an extra hand. It doesn't look like it will hurt her any.

If you can get the 2 separated be sure to lube up the pink part so it’s is moist. You may even have to very gently push it back in. Main thing you don’t want that healthy tissue to dry out. Try and get a good picture of the pink part once you get it separated

Great advice! I will do that!

Thank you all for helping! My husband and I clipped the lash egg from the rest. We gently tried to reinsert the pink part but I think she will pull it in herself (it deflated as I was reinserting it). We let her go outside as it rained and she was very happy to eat and drink. I guess we will see what tomorrow brings... thanks again!

Henrietta is still going. She's eating and drinking and her usual self. Unfortunately, her condition hasn't gotten better. It seems the organ has gone back in (from my point of view) but she's still bleeding. She's not displaying any discomfort at this time. Note: We have no vets in our area to bring her to. We will just need to give it time.
