Hello! My pekin duck layed 3 eggs infront of me (I saw it come out but not all at once) all in between 3 hours. Today she laid an egg and 10 mins later another one (I saw it) all eggs except the one she lays over night are soft shelled or the yolk comes out and then a soft shell comes out. Any advice/tips? Please. What does this mean?
Also my other pekin duck stopped laying eggs last week. She doesn’t want to eat much but she still does! She seems a bit upset. I tried epsom salt baths and nothing. I massaged her belly and one egg came out but that’s it and she hasn’t laid anymore. Her stomach doesn’t feel stiff anymore. Do pekin ducks eventually stop for a few months? (They’re both 10 months old) they eat duck pellets, meal worms as treats & sometimes lettuce. I started giving them vitamins/electrolytes in their water again.

What duck pellets? How many treats/extras a day do they get? Do they have free choice oyster shells? I would highly recommend picking up some calcium gluconate from your local farm store and feeding 1ml a day to both of them. It is normal for ducks to take breaks laying. However, it is not normal for them to lose their appetite or seem distressed during a laying break.

They get mealworms once a day. I give them oyster shells to have along with their food a few times a week but I don’t do it everyday. Should I have it available for them everyday with their food?
They need to have oyster shells available to them at all times. It is crucial for their reproductive health.

This is what they eat (I added a picture) 18% & they get mealworms once a day. They get oyster shells with their food about twice a week. I will definitely be picking that up. Thank you! There is no vet near us to care for my duck so I’m trying to do anything that I can. She has gotten a little better but still not fully herself. Her voice sounds like she’s kissing it a little bit & it scares me.

While Kalmbach duck pellets are great they do not provide enough calcium for a laying duck which is perfectly fine as long as I said above they have access to oyster shells at all times. I would dose them both with the calcium gluconate for a week each to rebuild their calcium levels and make sure you have the oyster shells always out. I think you will see an improvement in them after that.

Any recommendations on what I could change their feed to? Thank you I will be making sure all of that is available to them. I appreciate it!
