My male Pekin has a swollen leg joint just where the leg meets the body. It is quite hot and swollen. The vet has had him on an antibiotic twice a day but after 10 days the leg shows no improvement. Can anyone offer suggestions on what else I might do? I am very worried and most concerned!

Is he still able to move the leg?

Any other symptoms?

Can you take a photo of the swelling?

His leg swelling has been identified as septic arthritis by two vets, so I have an appointment with U.C. Davis Vet School on Thursday, 4/7.
The Bay Area Bird Hospital in San Francisco vet obviously mis-diagnosed the swelling and the two antibiotics she prescribed did not help and so I have stopped them after 12 days. Septic arthritis is apparently a common cause of swollen joints in ducks according to a vet on Just Answer Bird, who happens to have graduated from U.C. Davis.

And he moves with a distinct wobble from side to side since one leg is much more swollen than the other. But I will certainly post what they tell me at U.C. Davis on Thursday...
