Pekin Duck owners.....

When we had 50-60 MPH winds my Pekins got 2 inches off the ground then promtly crashed on the gound and rolled like ninjas because they were pushed by said wind

They don't fly at all and you need LOTS of wind to get their porky butts off the ground

My wife actually said this exact statement to our (2) Pekins when they flap their wings. Every once and a while they get frisky and get about 4" off the ground and land about 4" back on the ground from where they left off.

This picture shows about as high as they will ever be above the ground.

A flying Peking would scare me stiff, lol.
I clip my Mallard hen's wings, she flies very well. I leave my Khaki's alone, I don't think they can actually fly, only seen them literally hover in place.

My 12 week old girl (Muddy) actually becomes impressively airbourne. A good 3 feet up and 3 feet forward. There is nothing smooth about it and don't expect it to last if she gains anymore weight (she's about 5lbs). Its really funny!

Your posts made me laugh

I guess I wont need to clip then.

This is my garden - so I don't think they will get anywhere!.

They can get under all the decking and the plants have grown a lot more. Their pen has been placed at the bottom of the garden near the small decking piece.

I have placed a paddling pool on the middle decking - they love it

Hello,
Well yesterday one of my 4 Pekins did actually fly off the ground for about 15 yards, and 2-3 feet high.....then came down.
That was after a good run with all wings aflappin'.....once up gravity takes over.
Guess I need to increase the feed abit!

I would leave their feathers alone as pekings are not known to fly.

But I have also left my mallards alone and they LOVE dive bombing unsuspecting people... I hate to admit I laugh at the mallard mischief gang even when it is me they are brushing.
