Pekin duck walking on hocks

Niacin, Niacin, Niacin.

Was your vet giving shots of B3 specifically? or another form of vitamin B (Riboflavin is B2)? It should have been B3. I'm sorry but I think your vet is wrong.

Start giving her Niacin. Make sure her feed contains it. Give her some "Sav-A-Chick" electrolyte (from Tractor Supply) added to her water that has it. Get some Brewers Yeast (not bread yeast) to sprinkle on her feed (contains Niacin). If you can't seem to find Brewers Yeast check with your local health food store or a place that sells beer making ingredients.
I will check, but I believe the yeast used to make beer is not what we call Brewer's Yeast - please be patient, I'll be back after verifying that. I believe Brewer's Yeast is spent - not active.

Okay - I can see how it gets confused. The brewer's yeast to take as a B vitamin supplement has been used, and there is no active yeast culture in it. Brewing yeast, sometimes also called brewer's yeast, has active live cultures and is not good for eating.

Whew.

Thank you very much for clarifying that. That's important to know. I was at a hydroponic shop and had asked about where to get brewers yeast (I didn't want to make beer I was just asking about it for another "future" use and specifically asked for Brewers yeast). They said they carried it but they sell beer making supplies and may have misunderstood me.

Good catch !!!

I remember the confusion when some big box stores started labeling plastic poultry fence as hardware cloth

Hardware cloth is metal, heavy-duty mesh to keep predators out. Some folks were using that plastic stuff thinking it would work, and raccoons can rip right through it.

When we were brooding ours, we just bought niacin supplements at Wal*mart. Split a capsule between two half gallon pitchers of water and then added a pro-biotic/electrolyte mix and we filled the drinkers from there. If you can't easily find brewer's yeast, you might go that way.

Let us know... And thank you for being a wonderful ducky parent. She is really lucky!

Now looking at both sets of pictures, I think you are right. It seems like her lower leg has dislocated and rotated so that the outer side of the leg is down. Are both legs like this or does she squat on the other one to make up for this one being "short"?

I hope your new vet can help.. Bless you for taking her and getting help.

Yikes, I was hoping it wasn't that. :/ I wish you lots of luck at the vet! I really hope they can help her, but be prepared that this is a very difficult problem to fix when they are this big. I know there is a surgery they can do, but that's not always plausible. I don't want to worry you, just speaking from my own experience and heart break with slipped tendons.

Please don't forget to come back and give us an update after the vet, ok?

Hey guys! So i took daisy to the vet and this one definately knew what she was talking about, she was very informative and did a great job explaining to me whats wrong with daisy. There is good news and bad news, the good news is that the bones in her legs are normal nothing is slipped or out of place. The bad news is that her legs were hyper extended and she will unfortunately never be able to walk again

This was caused by a lack of B2 and riboflavin, the vet said that its becoming more common in white pekin ducks and she was born this way so theres nothing that i could have done to prevent it from happening. Even though she wont be able to walk ill continue to love her, cuddle her and keep her happy for the rest of her life!
