pekin duckling question

he seems happy, he just rests alot when hes walking around, so we will have to see what happens. My husband thinks that they should ALL be eaten someday, so unfortunately there is NO changing his mind. Thanks for everybodys suggestions. I have wanted a pekin since I was a little girl and now that I have one I DONT WANT ONE ANYMORE. I don't want to have to see him uncomfortable everyday. I will just try to make him happy while I can.

tomorrow he is going to start a low stress work out program of swimming in the bath tub several times a day. It should be low impact on his joints and I am sure that he will thoroughly enjoy it too.

I agree with you. I would recommend swimming too. The water provides exercise and allows the duckling to take the weight off his feet. When I raise ducklings I allow them access to swimming water for most of the day if it is warm. Ducklings his age do not have the oils to keep themselves waterproofed so you do need to watch them to make sure they don't become water logged and chill. If there is an easy way out of the water and a heat lamp the ducklings will know themselves when to get out and warm up. I also offer them young dandelion greens and a mixture of chopped greens from the store. Make sure all the greens are chopped into bit sized pieces. I put them in the water so they keep fresh. Make sure to offer grit when these foods are offered.

I was going to have him swim in the bath tub because its still cold outside here. I will then put him back in the pen in the garage which I can turn the light on in. He has swam before, but not everyday, so I am just going to make a point to MAKE him exercise everyday. Thanks for more info.
