Pekin ducks

Hi, I had four pekin ducks, 2 drakes (Walnut and Scrooge) and 2 hens ( Lily and Daisy), Scrooge was beating up all the others and they were terrified of him. A woman had told me she was looking for a drake to get fertile eggs for her female. I gave up Scrooge to her with tears thinking this would be best for all. To my dismay, the people have not contacted me as promised to tell me how he is doing and seem to be ignoring my calls. I have to stop worrying about him now and I do not want the person I gave him to to think I am a stalker. I'm kind of heart broke now though, especially since Walnut and Lily are being very mean to Daisy. I do not know how to handle this situation. Daisy tries to get close to the other two and they chase her away and bite at her. Daisy is a very sweet duck and now I think I have to find someone to take her so she can relax and be a duck without being bullied. I'm very sad about how this is all turning out. Walnut and Lily were here a year before Scrooge and Daisy. Not sure if age has anything to do with it. Anyone have any advice?

:welcome :wee:ya:yesss: Hello and welcome to BYC, You found an Amazing Poultry Community to be a part of with many great knowledgeable members who are more then willing to jump in and help you along your journey with any questions you may have. :)

So sorry to hear about your situation and I can relate to having to make choices and hope it all works out in the end.

I would say size and not age makes the difference when adding new members to your flock. There is a pecking order in their little community and they will get it all figured out in the end.

As long as you have the correct drake to hen ratio and enough room for everyone, you should be fine.

Best of luck and please keep us posted. :)

Thank you for your kind support. Now that one drake Scrooge has been rehomed, I have two girls and one boy. The sleeping house footprint is 8 x 6. The play yard or day pen when I have leave is 12 x 12. The back yard when I'm home is about 2 acres surrounded by another 38 of woods. I have no pond, however I set up multiple kiddie pools. I think it is enough room. They share with wild turkeys, bunnies, deer, lots of squirrels and other wild birds. Funny thing with the baby monitor set up outside, I can hear commotion from all the non predatory animals. Comes in handy.
