Pekin limping

So very sorry about your niece:hugs

Sure hope your duck will be okay :fl Please let us know.

I am so thankful our vet finally got over this craziness and now we don't have to wait in the car or wear a mask inside. They all still do but the public doesn't.

Well it's been 5 days since she went to the vet. She's still limping a little but not nearly so bad. And the swelling is down but not gone totally. The limp is barely noticeable in the morning but gets worse as the day goes on. She's out of the anti-inflammatory medicine the vet gave her. I can still do Epsom salts twice a day but I'm wondering if she needs more time with the meds?
How long does it take to heal? Should I still be keeping her more contained or can she roam with her friends? I'm mostly worried about her trying to get in and out of the baby pool and maybe doing too much walking before she's ready.

Call the vet and see if they think she should be on meds longer after you tell them how she is doing. If she needs help getting in an out of the pool can you provide ramps or steps for her? I'd keep her pretty much contained just like us when we sprain or break a leg or ankle or foot we have to rest. If we continue to use whats is injured it's just going to take longer to heal.
Epsom salt soaks would still help I'd think.

A sprain is the ligaments/tendons actually being pulled to the point they stretch and fray. Picture when you pull a rope or rubber band too hard and the tension causes the sides to start weakening until it starts to tear from the sides. It takes 3-8 weeks for a sprain to heal and for the ligaments/tendons to repair themselves. 5 days is nowhere near enough time for a sprain to fully heal so yes there will still be some swelling, limping and pain which is going to be normal. Keep her from straining the leg any further and call the vet if the swelling starts to go back up, her leg starts to get abnormally hot or her limping gets worse. The vet has diagnosed her with a sprain which is not fun, but also not serious as long as she is kept on "bed rest" until it heals and prevented from further tearing or straining herself.

Thank you. The vet gave her three more days of meloxicam and said we'd see how she is on Monday.
She's definitely doing much better. She's almost walking normally and is getting faster lol. I was letting her roam a little while I watched this morning and then contained her again. Sometimes I put the other two in with her when she's freaking out about them leaving her behind.
She has brick steps up to her pool but it's harder for her to get out. I've just been picking her up and putting her in and taking her out when she wants. She's getting used to that lol. She's started to just quack really loudly at me and swim to the side when she wants out. 😂
