I have 4 Pekin... 3 ducks and a drake. I got 2 of the birds from TSC when they were having their chick days earlier this year. The other 2 I traded for because I had 2 mallard drakes. Well, the 2 that I traded for were a little older, and had already started laying. They laid for a few days and then they all molted. (at least that's what I'm assuming happened!) Last week they started laying again, and I found 4-5 eggs just laying on the ground, so I picked them up. (YAY!!)
Well, all of a sudden... I'm not getting eggs again! I haven't gotten one in a few days and I didn't know what was going on, so I decided on a whim to look behind the pool (it's a 6' pool with a "slide" so there's an overhang on the back side corner). Sure enough! They have dug out a big ol' nest, lined it with grasses and such, and there are 8 eggs in it!! What do you think I should do?? I've thought about collecting the eggs, putting them in the doghouse we have in there (they did lay a couple in there, but I collected them) and covering the back side up so they can't get back there any more. I have a friend willing to incubate them, but I REALLY don't want to bring the ducklings in the house. When we got these guys it was a horrible messy ordeal! LOL
Here's a picture of the nest and eggs.
