pekin owners, how do u like your ducks?

We had two that we had raised, and when we moved years ago, we had to give them away. Boy did my husband miss those darn ducks. He even got diapers, harnesses and leashes for them.

So guess what I have in the bator and we go on lockdown tomorrow.

Yep, Pekin Duckies! I had 5 eggs, but two didn't develope. So far I believe the other three are doing good. I'll keep you posted. However, they seem to be the most outgoing and friendly ducks, at least out of the ones we had. We did have some mallard type ducks, but they were not as friendly?

I love my Pekin to death, had her since she could fit in my hand, now shes all grown up and follows me around and spend lots of time together, just that duck has brightened my life up alot.

How old are they? The males will have a few curled up feathers at the end of their back.

I have liked them and they are in demand for their meat and eggs. I don't think they are my favorite in my flock as I like the colored ducks in looks but they are sweet and loud and defanatly in charge! When raising them you need to watch out for too much growth at one time since they grow so fast they can have problems with their legs if you don't add niacin to their diet.

I cut my flock back for winter so only have three breeders but I plan on having more babies in the spring with them, so I must like them.

My 2 drakes are peaceful. My 2 Mallard drakes fight like a scene from Bridget Jone's Diary, but my Pekins are SO sensible. Sometimes, one will nip the pair of fighitng Mallards, but otherwise they are serene and stately.

I have a trio of Pekin. They have lovely temperaments. They are greedy guts, though, so I have to restrict their food. I suspect they'd eat until they pop. Their food gets weighed and I pay attention to their weight. They'd look like Humpty Dumpty if I let them.

I raise mine for meat. They grow extremely fast and dress out well. They are really pleasant to work with.

I like my Appleyards a bit better, but the Pekin are extra nice ducks. I think they are well worth raising. I like the personality of the Appleyards better. They have more character, lay more eggs, and dress out leaner at the same size.

The Pekins do as they are told and the Appleyards will back talk me. I enjoy the sass. The Pekins are probably easier to work with.
