Going to pick up some of these sweet girls.
I think they’re pekins? But I’m not positive. Definitely getting the double laced and some other(I’ll be picking 2 out of 5)
What are they? The owner says she doesn’t know chickens, her daughter is the chicken person who is not at home currently. They are bantams

lol they’re cochins. I didn’t know Cochin bantams were so delicate and round

I think Butterball(buff) is a mix

We decided to wait till today to get them because it got too late.
It looks like all but her black ones are clean legged

Yeah, I've never heard of pekins having no leg feathers. Those are probably very convincing mixes

I'm under the assumption that "pekin" and "cochin bantam" are two of the same. Pekin is what most call them in the UK and EU, while the US mostly refers to them as cochin bantams. Maybe I'm wrong?

Off the top of my head; pekins don’t and cochins do but you’re probably right with that one!

They do have feathered legs! The buff only has a few feathers though. So I think she’s a mix

Never heard of that before. Then again, cochins aren't a breed I work with. @pipdzipdnreadytogo is way more qualified to answer this

If you read the European standard for Pekin bantams and picture what it describes, you'll find a rather similar image in your mind to what you'd imagine of a Cochin bantam. Put both in a room side by side and it would take an expert scrutinizing them to know which is which. Yes, there are some minor differences, but many breeds differ slightly between North America and Europe. Pekins are considered a true bantam because they have large fowl Cochins over there that they refer to as Cochins, and they consider them separate breeds. But, effectively Cochin bantams and Pekin bantams are one in the same breed. Both Pekins and Cochins are very round, stout, and and fluffy, single-combed, and they both have heavily feathered legs with yellow skin.

If you are in North America, what you have is Cochin bantams. I would agree that the buff hen appears to be a mix, however, as she has little feathering on her shanks and incorrect skin color. The two pure Cochins are White (obviously 🤭 ) and Partridge in coloration. Cute birds! 🙂

Thank you!!

I think she might be half buff orp. She’s got the tail and skin color for it… guess I’ll be making a thread for her lol
