Pellets or crumbles, which is better?

good point...price wise, pellets are generally cheaper than crumbles. for cost effectiveness, its pellets and a lil bit of whole corn. whole corn is cheaper than the cracked. the cracking and the crumbling requires an additional procedure. and you pay dearly for it.

i do feed crumbles to my layers....occasionally. but i pour water over it, till it turns to a thick paste, no waste, and they love it. its more of a treat than a maintance yard feed. you can do the same with pellets if your affraid your birds cant handle the pellets. and they seem to really enjoy the soaked feed better than dry.

I am willing to try the pellets with warm water to soften but what about summer when hot out wont it get rancid easy not to mention the flys in it just a thought

This is exactly what I would suggest....a slow gradual change. I don't know if it's because feed store carry less or what, but in my area pellets always go first. My reason, like others, is less waste.

you only soak and feed enuff that they will clean up in an hr or so. in summer it helps put moisture in their system. something needed. esp. if they are laying in high gear.
