pellets or crumbles?

which is better pellets or crumbles? I'm feeding crumbles to the girls now, they are 6 months old. if pellets will they need grit too?

They want need grit unless they are in a coop all day.

I have found that pellets are more economical. They don't waste as much. While I don't think that you would have to use grit I think that it is always a good idea to provide it for them anyway. In the wild they would be picking up small stones so I feel the closer to natural the better they would be.

ya your birds will ALWAYS need grit of some kind,,, mine live in the sand,, so them getting grit isnt a problem here lol
but like opa said,, pellets will usually last longer,, some times if their not use to pellets,, they wont eat worth a heck for 3 or 4 days,, but they get hungry nuff and will eat it hehe

Are crumbles supposed to turn to dust? Iʻd buy pellets if anyone out here carried them, but the crumbles seem to disintegrate within 48 hours. At that point, the chicks ignore them and Iʻm topping off the feed with fresh crumbles. Could it be Hawaiiʻs humidity?

Possibly the humidity. How do you store your feed? I live in Florida. I use crumbles. I tried pellets but they didn't seem to eat them as well. I assumed it was because they were used to crumbles. I keep their feeder to just above their back. I have had no problem with wasted feed. Also I don't have the feeder set at the higher level for the feed dispensing. I made a lid for my feeder. I keep my feed in 5 gal buckets with lids. I have no problems with their feed. It stays nice.

Mine were on crumbles until they started laying at 19 weeks and I switched them to layer pellets without any trouble. They made have eaten less for a few days, but as the1much said when they get hungry enough they'll eat.
I love the pellets! Much less waste and I don't have crumble dust in the bottom of my feeder that has to be cleaned out routinely to keep it from blocking the flow of feed.
