Pellets or crumbles?

I use DuMor grower/finisher for all flock. Mine are 16 weeks and 2 are laying. The crumbles are $14 at TSC. I provide oyster shell free choice.

A $5 50lb bag? The quality of that would concern me. Mayyyybe if bulk. But yikes

Keep in mind that the health of your birds is important. If being able to afford decent feed regularly is not an option, perhaps waiting a while for chickens is better. (Part of why we finally got ours! Definitely not extra money laying around at my house!) After all, you are going to be eating their eggs and/or meat. You want it healthy and poor food will likely end up with you purchasing extra supplements or medications at some point.

A related question: Will chickens eat the crumbles and the pellets, meaning - is there a chance for example that some chickens will refuse to eat pellets and literally starve themselves? Or, will hunger drive them to eat?

Hunger will drive them to eat. They won't starve themselves to death, given that the food is fresh and not molded.
