I started of a couple of years ago with three chickens feeding them pellets but then I tried out what I think is called, Mash which looks like powder which they took to. The seed merchant had run out of mash so I took a bag of pellets which the chickens are kicking all over the run and don't seem to like it. I would welcome any comments on their behaviour before I go buying my next lot of fed.

Most Chickens like mash or crumbles over pellets.
If you give toss Scratch Grains as a treat to the chickens, try mixing in some pellets.
That's how I switched my first Flock from Starter Crumbles.
Only toss on dry ground though, you don't want any left over pellets to get moldy.
I've been feeding Crumbles for a couple of years now.

All the chickens I have ever had prefer crumbles over pellets. I avoid mash because a lot of it seems to get wasted.

What about mini pellets?
Mini pellets seem to be better received than the larger ones in my experiences. My chickens seem to do better with a mix of crumbles, 5 grain scratch and pellets rather than just crumbles or pellets as their sole choice(s).

I bought a bag of each for the new pullets. They just finished the 50 lb crumbles in about 30 days flat. I assume birds will eat what they have, but will monitor if this 50 bags goes slower. Will need to get to TSC for a replenish in a week for two. I also bought 100 lbs of scratch will goes much slower. I'm guessing about 4 times more scratch than layer feed gets used daily. Has anyone had trouble getting layer feed? The farm, which I got the pullets told me 4 weeks ago the good Purina variety was hard to get with the recent interest in egg layers.
