My favourite Welsummer has a pendulous crop. I think it started out as an impacted crop. I noticed it about 3 weeks ago.
I brought her inside and massaged the impacted part 6 or 7 times, every day. I inverted her and made her barf out what was in there. I fed her only yogurt and water with apple cider vinegar. I did this for 6 days. All the while she was very inquisitive, active and happy looking. When I thought the problem was resolved (the impacted part) I released her to free range with the flock.
But each morning I let them out- I notice her crop is still huge and swinging low like a huge boob. I pick her up and feel it- it is all squishy and not impacted in any way.. But I do see her vomitting from time to time (I have seen it twice- just whitish liquid) - its not like I watch her all day.... and Im worried that it will become sour crop. She is behaving totally normal, except for the barfing- and not laying any eggs (she stopped March 31) which was around the time I first noticed her crop looked big.
So I think her crop is stretched out, and the food she is eating is just siting in there rotting. She has access to grit, and she free ranges and there is a ton of everything she needs... How can I help her correct her pendulous crop? If I only feed her yogurt or apple sauce for a month will it shrink back up?
