Penedesenca Fertile Eggs or Chicks in Southern California?

I'm hatching some eggs for someone who really loves Penedesenca chickens for their heat hardiness (and a little nostalgia as her husband used to keep them). Anyone in California have a flock with fertile eggs? Or hatching some soon?

I would try also checking eBay, Craigslist, or your state/local poultry groups on Facebook. Some hatcheries sell hatching eggs too.

Are the black Penedesencas extinct? I want some! Does anybody know of anybody in America that has any??? I want to preserve this beautifu bird if there are any left!

Sandhill Preservation says they're sold out for 2025 but you might still reach out to them. Maybe they have a few chicks at random times or they can tell you the best time of year to order to get them.

"Black Penedescenca- Black Minorca-like chicken with a unique single comb that has almost a crown at the back side. They lay a dark brown egg. Their behavior is very flighty and is similar to a Leghorn. They have an unusual comb - - - single in the front with multiple lobes at the rear. Our strain tends to not have the pure white earlobes. We strive to select for darkest egg first, comb type second. Our males tend to have bright, white earlobes and the proper combs. Hens tend to have less white earlobes and not always the best combs. These have not yet been admitted to the APA Standard. We have maintained this breed since 2005. Chicks $10.00 each (Maximum of 5 per hatch)SOLD OUT FOR 2025."

I had Crele Penedesenca eggs shipped from FL to SoCal. They should hatch late this week. If I get a good hatch, I'll have extra chicks to sell.

Thanks but it's the black ones I'm interested in. I really don't want to do business with Sandhill. I've heard ... not good ... things about them. You can only order 5 chicks of a certain breed from them, but there's a minimum order of a much larger size for example. And those 5 chicks you want are unsexed. At a high price. I could get all cockerels and then where would I be? No thanks.
