Hey everyone. A few days ago two of my goats were killed and one injured by a couple dogs. The one who lived was hurt pretty bad - the dogs went for her throat and tore it up pretty badly. We brought her to the house and have her on our screened in back porch (at night at least. She's been feeling a lot better the last couple days so I let her out in the yard during the day.)

I'm giving her twice daily penicillin injections to hopefully prevent her wounds from getting infected. What I'm wondering is how long I should continue it? Its been years since I've had livestock and I'm just not sure.

Thanks in advance!

At least five days.

You probably know this, but make sure the wounds heal from the inside out. If it just seals over it will form a pocket and make an abscess. Flushing daily with hydrogen peroxide will help prevent infections too.

Thank you! Yes, I do know that :) I'm new to goats but I've owned many horses and worked at a large barn for years, so I saw quite a few serious injuries.

It's been exactly one week since she was attacked. I'm pleased to say that she seems to be recovering well! I think she's going to be okay after all :)
