My windows are about 5 feet off the ground. Should they be covered with hardware cloth? My carpenters think I'm nuts, but we do have bear around here. And in the summer, I might be gone for a weekend and the windows would be open. What do you think?

Nice looking coop! Although I doubt hardware cloth will keep a bear out, yes, I would cover it. It will keep out other predators!

Nice coop. Would be nice to have about a dozen of those.

This is Sylvia. She decided to fly out of the brooder and sit on my lap and have a visit. They are getting many more feathers and some of them aren't so cute anymore. :)

Ahhh, yes- the gawky teenager age. They'll be feathered out and gorgeous again in no time. And then....eggs!

Yes to hardware cloth. It may not keep a bear out, but it will keep out raccoons, minks, rats, etc, etc...

Nice looking coop! As the others have said, I am also in the 'hardware cloth over the windows' camp. We even put hardware cloth over our eaves... nasty critters can find ways into about anything!

I am looking for gardeningmama. I am new here to BYC and PA unite and she is supposed to be my guide to all things chicken.
