I'm glad we had our cook out yesterday. It's overcast and chilly today. Of course the kids are still begging to go swimming. I got the coop cleaned and two perches made. The hubby needs to build the new coop so we can get our teenage chickens out of the extra chicken house. I let them all free range while I was cleaning. This was the first time the white rocks were with our grown up silkies and leghorns. The older chickens ignored them most of the time and the little ones enjoyed having so outside time. I've been researching coops on here and on the web. I want something that will have 3 separate houses and yards but be one large structure. I'm having trouble finding exactly what I want the hubby to make. I want him to keep the old coop (it's a year old!!lol) as a back up or broody pen but I think he is afraid the more room we have the more chickens I will get. Lol. I have 10 eggs in our homemade incubator right now and I'm hoping we get some baby chicks in the next 10 days or so.

Men are like kids, If it is quiet for to long you need to go see what they are up to........ he is suppose to be working in the garden and this is what I find when I go around the corner..

It is good to know that there is white skin!!! I have a shipment of 25 chicks coming from Paul Smith. I am sure I will have an extra black cockerel!!! They will be here in a week or so. Then I will need another 8 weeks until I can sex them!!!

Did you get the wheaten shipment already?

I helped my first gosling out today! I have another one shrink wrapped but it hasn't absorbed all the blood vessels yet. This first one I'm mauling so it imprints on me.

I lost 2 of my poults and 2 chicks since yesterday morning. They don't have that illness, I just think it was to cold for them the last couple of nights and everyone squished them. I lost a duckling too, but that one seemed like it couldn't open it's mouth. I made sure all of the membrane was off it's dace and mouth when I helped it out of it's shrink wrapped mess and I could open it's mouth, but it never peeped or made a single noise. I showed it the water and food several times and I never saw it eat or drink. No clue what it's problem was. The other one I helped with it has a lazy tail, so I guess that one will stay.

If I was a cat person I would. We have about 20 strays around here now that.people have dumped which I inadvertently feed when I leave the dog food out, we rescued the dog, was all ribs when she wandered up to her.

I hope you find someone that will want them!!

someone out there has to need one of these, they can not live in the garage

OMG. If I didn't just bring 2 home and claim a 3rd, I would take them! I can't have anymore though. I already replaced the ones I lost (Jester curled up in the shed and died last winter, Acorn Face died under the house within the same week as Jester - I think both were poisoned - Potty Girl got hit by a car and Nova just disappeared 3wks ago - I think someone shot him; ie the neighbor).

same issue's here, there's always a few drop off's..they are mostly on the wild side and never calm down, but this momma has always been friendly, and ended up having little one's in the garage...that was not the problem, the problem just started in the last couple days when she started to bring them outside,,,they are just under feet to much and will get hurt eventually,,,working farm and clingy kitty is not a good combination.

this hatching thing is stressful. Have 6 babies so far and more working their way out. Lost one :-( I just keep looking in on them to make sure all is ok. My husband keeps telling me to relax but I am a mom I worry :-).

It breaks my heart that people just drive out here and dump them, our neighbours have taken in several cats.
