Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I know this snt chicken related but I really want a goat. Something on the smaller side but I would still like to use it for milking. Any suggestions? I'm a city girl so this is all new to me! Any and all help is appreciated!
I have been watching this nonstop...so cute!

nbenevento- I would happily pay for your hens if you didnt live so far away.
Why do I live so far from all the chicken folk? Unfair.

Sidenote- one of my pullets just started clucking like a hen. (black australorp, around 16 weeks old) any ideas on when she will start laying?

Awesome. That is what we are hoping to do, raise some for making new turkeys and have some for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Never been around turkeys, just seen the wild ones running around in my backyard and roosting high up in the trees. Was surprised that they can fly up 20 feet to the tops of the trees. I hope my turkeys won't want to join the wild turkeys flock :(
Lol ours never strayed far. They were to lazy to find their own food. They liked it handed to them. We clipped their wings as well but they were never much for flying.

Thanks but I screwed up anyway. They aren't hens. I left out that they are cockerels. So if anyone wants some 9 week old COCKEREL BCM's, you can have them!

I also have a flock of Australorps. My most recent started laying at about 22 weeks I think. She showed all the signs leading up to it for about a week or so...bright red comb and squatting.

Oberhasli are not too large and they are good milk producers, they also have good temperaments. Alpine is another breed that you might want to check in to. Saanen's can get pretty large, are excellent milk producers. Lamancha is another breed, and Taagenberg, and Nubian really, they are all good. Are you in to fiber animals? If so you could go for an Angora goat but be forewarned, Angora's have to keep their horns in order for them to be able to cool off from the heat . Never milked one but if you want a funny conversation piece you could look for Fainting goat's ( yes, some loud noises will make them faint ). It is quite funny. The choice is yours, ha e fun finding out more about each one then choose which one fits what you want the most. :)

Forgot to mention that I know someone in the York area that has several of these breeds. Let me know when you decide and I can see if she has any available and what the price would be. :)

Thank you for the info! This is all new to me so I can use all he guidance I can get. I wish I knew one one close by so I can watch them milk the goats. YouTube is fine but I need hands on experience for some things! Same goes for sending chickens to freezer camp. I don't think I can do it but if someone showed me I would be willing to give it a shot. I was born a city girl but I'm a country girl at heart!

Blarney, has Nigerian Dwarfs, small and cute.  Make a lot of milk for there size.  Be for warned, it is hard to keep them in there fence, LOL.  Just ask Blarney!!!

How does the milk compare to cows milk? Do you have to milk everyday? Any and all help appreciated!

How big a coop do I need for for Turkey over the summer, three over winter? Outside run space?
depends on the breed you are considering,,,all of them I ever had prefer a lean to type shelter over a coop.

My peeps, where are u located compared to York? I can't see it on my phone. I have milked goats before. If you are close i could show you how. I love goats milk! Wish i could find someone who sold it around me. Every one i knew stopped selling it for two some reason..

Hey everyone!

Well it turns out i do have a roo in my bunch....i havent made up my mind if i want to keep him yet or not...(he has always been my favorite chick and is still nice to me to this day but i have heard that will change )but does anyone anywhere i can get chicks (they dont have to be baby baby) this far into the summer with out ordering a bunch from online? I am just looking to add maybe 2 more hens to my group. I know for sure one is a rooster, the other one is the same age but looks alittle different and hasnt made a peep yet so not sure about it. I do have a polish who is 3 weeks younger might be a roo toooo....

So outta my 5 chicks i might have 3 that are roosters. I just want to try and add a few to the group while everyone is still younger.

So if anyone knows where i can get some chicks or even month or two old hens it would be much appericated!

If anyone knows anyone who will take roosters if i do decide to get rid of him that would be great to!

I live in the Carlisle Area..

Thanks Again!
