....Sorry so many questions this early...just trying to be pro-active...I have a few vets around here, well..down the road...will be making calls to see who is available or does the state(poultry-people) have a list of those involved with testing? I am asking you cause you know alot...

There is a list inside that black binder you got with the state vet's info including where they are, phone numbers and what areas they cover. The vet for your area is going to be the one you need to call and get the second part taken care of. The dosage is very small.

Quote: Seriously its the yeast, HOWEVER I did the age old give some milk in between long hour pauses to help stimulate contractions and let me tell you within 10 minutes of 1/4 cup of milk she had another puppy! I was amazed, I used yogurt last time but only did it at the onset! An old local breeder has given me some tips for a smoother delivery for the mom.

Well, to continue the baby theme of the night....

Gracie and Pidgy each hatched out a brood of chicks almost 5 wks ago, and last weekend we got another broody hatch from our hen Janeway, and actually, her chicks are all from our own flock of mixed breeds, so pretty cool to watch them.

first trip out and about in the 'play pen'

Peek-a-boo!

Well, a few days ago Gracie decided she was done being broody with her crew and she went back to her roost, they are nearly 5 wks old and were doing fine, but obviously missed their mama hen.... We decided to put Janeway and her bunch into the big broody area with Pidgy and her crew and the crew of 'orphans' as Radioman calls them. Lo and behold the first night after she was in with them we go to lock them up for the night and find that Janeway has adopted the orphans! So she now has 6 of her own (1 wk olds) and 4 of Gracie's (5wks old) and they seem to be all quite happy with the set up! Got this pic of them tonight before we locked up. If you look closely to the lower left of Janeway's chest you will see a little puffy white head peeking out... that happens to be one of Gracies chicks, and in fact is a mini Gracie, (white Silkie mix from one of Gracie's eggs)

and the second shock of the night was that I didn't find Gracie up on the roost with the other birds like she has been the past 3 nights...
I FOUND HER BACK IN HER BROODY BOX!!! I snapped a pic, just to show Radioman... we are hoping she's just back in her broody spot because she likes the basket or something, because I never would have thought she'd get back to being broody within a week of seperating from her last batch of chicks! Geesh, she's only laid 3 eggs so far! Hoping she is back out and about with the flock tomorrow and this is just a phase!
ach du gut in Himmel!

***Tired here. Checked the babies 3 Xs last night in with a flashlight. I think I only succeeded in freaking out Mom.

Fisherlady, you take the most amazing photos, can you come by and photo all my babies?

Westmoreland county here!! 25 chickens, about 10 ducks and a goose!! :)

Welcome! Westmoreland County here too! I am in North Huntingdon. I love seeing more people come on here from this side of the state. Seems like most of these crazy people on here are all from the other side...I meant that in the best possible way of course, to all of you on that side.

Yep, dates back to the Egyptians if I remember correctly, and I think it was used to help nursemaids continue to lactate in between kids, I could be wrong...now I gotta look it up.

I don't know why, but this info reminds me of the guy who proved men can lactate without taking female hormones...yep gonna be one of those days.
Thank you! No one ever believes me when I tell them a person can make their milk come in. Especially when I say a guy can do it too!
I have threatened to make DH do it just for fun.
