Not just one.. but TWO... yay... >.<

Quality for laying or selling or showing? I like having my variety (honestly so I can tell them apart...my EE I can tell apart bc the two that are similarly colored are different sizes...my BO & BA look the same to me :/ ). I would *love* to have a crew that lays an egg a day consistently.

Quality as far as getting closer to the standard of perfection. Finally feeling like I'm getting very close to having birds I've bred myself that I can take to shows:)

UGH crazy computer...try this again:

No new chicken news other than the mounting attempts by Copper (BCM) and Duncan (Amerucana). Yesterday Duncan attempted his first mount, unfortuantely it was on Copper...Duncan is minus a few feathers and Copper is avoiding him like the plague. Today Copper attempted with a few girls, end result: they all ran off screaming bloody murder and he stood there dumbfounded, then Jäger would come stomping over puffed up like a balloon. It was almost as funny as Duncan's second attempt. This time he tried Angel, the other Amerucana, she got up and tried to run away while screaming. What made it so funny was Duncan was holding on for dear life, and she's bucking and trying to toss him off...brought a whole new light to the old "Rodeo position" joke. I was laughing so hard there were tears.

Also I placed my first order with Schwan's and put "Free Range Chickens on property" on the note for the driver/delivery person and that they can stop next door and honk, just to be safe. I honestly had no clue how many people have bird issues until I got these kiddos. The number of people afraid of birds just boggles my mind...I do have to wonder how many of them watched "The Birds," since many seem to be older people.

So Gavin asked to stay up to see the sun come up AND so he could let the chickens out of their coop. I said yes, since we were both having trouble sleeping. Kiddo made it to 0430 and then he was dead to the world...poor kid, he's gonna be so upset when he knows how close he was.

Where would I find information on NPIP?
I'm looking online and there's a link to learn how to become involved...it's a dead link.

I am still trying to understand the process. Got packet in mail a month ago. Very strict program. I am worried I wont be able to r=free range if I do this.

The classes that Chad set up were priceless. Not only did you get your classroom portion of the CPT course done, but you got lectures from both Dr. Nan Hanshaw and Dr. Greg Martin. They also took questions. For Free.

The way I understood Pennsylvania's NPIP program was that your poultry could have no exposure to wild birds. Which would mean no Free Range, unless you can figure a way to cover your whole yard, and keep the wild birds off your soil.

Unrelated, but very interesting. Is this legit? This happened in April of 2012, did any of you hear of it? I didn't.
