So the Cochin bantams are growing on me... I was thinking of adding one so my Banty silkie will have a friend. I am afraid she will get beat up in the big girl coop. Will any one have any come fall? She is raising babies for me right now so I want to wait till fall to give her a friend. Is it a bad idea to put a silkie and Cochin together? Beeing they both seem to be broody more often than not? My barred rock and Easter egger hens are evil to new birds. Silkie is fiesty but small, and I don't want her to get hurt. Oh and I have an extra cream legbar cockerel. A little over a week old. From green fire lines. If any one wants him let me know. :)

Auction tonight, 16 ducks are going! 10 mallard/swedish crosses 6 hens 4 drakes, 1 blue swed drake, 1 blue/white ancona drake, 2 black/white anocona drakes, 2 pekin/blue swed crosses 1 hen, 1 drake.

15 ducks are staying. Needed to cut down on the ducks, they are hogs!

I am taking some bits and pieces of my grow out pen. I have some random chicks that are from fence jumping, Then I think I am also taking 7 mottled cochin cockerels too.

Time to cut some fat!!!!!!

Next thing up for business is to finish the conditioning cages, and grow out pens.

I also found some helpful items: A heat lamp with a dimmer! I can keep the lamp in one spot, I can turn it off, and regulate temp from a switch in the cord!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!

Puppy pee pads. Working great for peeps up to a week or two depending if they are large fowl or bantam. I have less splay leg problems, and nobody is eating wood chips. Wooooohoooooo.

I forgot one more thing I am loving, this fan is the shiznit!!!!!!!

Just be aware, it looks like that light is taster for 160W. I have my brooder condo equipped with dimes on each level. I believe mine are rated at 600. Cost a little more however.
Long term I would like to det up a thermostat controlled system since my house has wide temperature swings.

Unrelated, but very interesting.  Is this legit?  This happened in April of 2012, did any of you hear of it?  I didn't.

Legit in what sense?
There are groups that do that rather regularly. They apply as workers and videotape and edit. I believe this chicken farm was one of theirs near Elizabethtown, iirc. Good conditions? Not really. Standard by industry standards? Pretty much.
Typical factory farm. I have worked in them in the past (flamesuit on). Crowded wire cages, automatic feeders, light controlled, dusty, yes to all. They are egg factories.
I'm not defending them, but that is how stores can offer eggs so cheap.
What other question would you have?
