Hi everyone, newbies and those who have been here.

Been a lot of changes around here. Seth called off the wedding last month (long story short we're each having issues personally, and as a, now former, couple), and as far as I am concerned we're done, saves me, and especially Gavin, from getting hurt more. We're downsizing the flock, and got Reyvaughn's goat. The icing on the cake was receiving a letter from domestics yesterday that the bio-material donor is suing me to have the support reevaluated.

Hopefully everyone else is having a better month than I have been...

We had a good drive back to the mountains. It is so beautiful going along 80....that river sure is low...it is good to be home!! The girls are doing well..4 eggs, but sadly have to toss due to worming

..gosh I really hate doing that! Only 1 week to go though.....Hope everyone is having a nice evening..it is so awesome out right now...take care all-Danielle

For the newbies: and, for you experienced chook folks this may seem like small potatoes...but, thew out the eggs that didn't hatch....mama and my three chicks are starting to wander the coop...and out from under mom...think I'm going to have some green egg layers...nice to see the babies starting to explore...who knows,,,,,

Ann- it is looking very good!! :thumbsup ....little reminders/suggestions....ventilation at the top of your coop..looks like you have plenty of room for a couple vents at your roof area...the girls are gonna need fresh air- not drafts, but air circulation so moisture doesn't build up:) ...also, chickens will eat anything...really, it can get gross sometimes:sick ..anyway, that is another thread...hahaha, maybe file some of that extra foam insulation off & out of there. I see some of that blue stuff too...sometimes just a steak knife or even a box cutter will do the trick!   I have read were they picked an entire foam cooler apart!!! I didn't finish reading to see how THAT worked out:rolleyes: ...not good I am sure....your doing a great job!! just little things to help them and you out!  What are you going to be using for bedding? What method I guess I should ask?... Glad to hear your getting to talk 'chicken shop" out of the house;) ..hahahaha..it really is an adventure..SO much to learn!!!!  Just wait till you finally get your girls!!!:celebrate ...hahahha....also to throw a little more thinking your way..What type of feeder and water system will you be going with? Will you be supplying electricity to the coop? Thinking of these things now...( there is more:smack ).. can help alot down the road...if you are thinking of having any of that in the coop, now would be a good time to address it...so you don't have to go back and re-work/modify the whole outfit later....checking out the coop threads might give you more ideas to work into your plans....Have fun!!!
We are going home tomorrow, can't wait to get back and play with the girls..hahaha

**Stake- Hoping your day is getting better:fl ...

Thank you all. Going out now to scrape put the extra insulation. Also, it's hard to see in the picture, but I have a little door above the big back door, that opens up to allow ventilation. I put hardware cloth behind it to deter any "visitors". Will take a pic later.

I will also make to sure seal up the blue insulation too, I'm just trying to get the basics down before bad weather comes, so I can put the coop in place.

I think for beddding I am going to use straw or hay (I always forget which one has seeds ). The chicken seminar I went to yesterday was helpful, and although I liked their choice of doing the "French intensive" method, I don't have quite enough room for that. :)

I think I am going to put nipple waterers in the run and the coop, and I won't be supplying electricity for the coop. However, if need be, we could run an extension cord , it's pretty close.

I also excited to get started! Holding those little chicklets yesterday was too much fun! I will be looking for chicks in February.... Just a hint... ;)

i think you should have your lawyer re-evaluate for more support, kids ain't cheap to raise these days.

have been searching for someone on the east coast with the Scot's dumpy breed of chicken for the past 2 years....only place I found them was sandhill but they have. Minimum of 25 chicks...I do not want to order that many..

It is a breed that suits me since they have 1 to 2 inch legs...unique and rare...just like me....will hide under the chair now....
i wish i had the room, would be more than happy to go halfies with you, i like them too

...it is so much fun to watch babies runaround and find things....hope all is going well.

I have no idea what a 'french intensive' is...sounds painful

....hhhahahaa....not even going to go there..hhahaha. Okay,is that anything like deep-litter? now i am curious....your water set-up sounds good...less of the everyday clean & fill....maybe you will still have to do this in the winter..I am going to be, cause the pipe & nipple waters can freeze unless you take the steps to prevent..I'm not putting electricity out there...yet...hahaha....It would be close, but I really don't want to either.
How did the insulation cleaning go? February will be here before you know it!
