Just to add to that,,,I have kept track

Never shop on the week that food stamps come out, you will not get bargains

Same for social security checks, just not as bad

ahhh for the good ole days when you would check off what you wanted on a printed list and how many and they would bring it right to you house, you paid them and then started putting things up, when i first moved up here, my mil did that, they brought all the groceries except for bread, milk and fresh fruit, we had milk men come twice a week, bread and fruit men once a week. my mil would spend over five hundred for everything but it was for every four months.

Sounds like he is just looking for a reason to go to the store. I have an ex like that. He would go buy what he wanted & never even check to see what we needed. Did NOT work well with 4 very young children in the house. I make a list of the things we are low on & add on any really good deals I find as I go. I can trust JJ to go to the store & get exactly what is on the list. He won't deviate from that list without texting me first. I also don't give him a very big list at a time...lol

silkie you may be right, he was so much better at shopping years ago when we had little one's and money was tight,,,as the kids moved out, I quit giving him a list and he now picks up mostly quick, convenient types foods, I left it alone since I worked in the evening , figured he could get by on quick foods instead of cooking...maybe I created a monster cause now he only buys quick junk...probly also the reason we are both overweight.

This is pretty much what I do. We are on a pretty limited budget so have to really watch what we spend. I go to 3-4 stores over 2-3 days' time at the beginning of each month. I save back about $50-75 for bread, milk, fresh fruits & emergency items. I grab the cheapezt items from each store that are on my list. I have not had to buy chicken since we started doing our own birds this year. Egga are another item I no longer have to buy. Jopefully milk will also join that list this spring when we breed the goats. I feed 2 adults & 2 children (plus snacks for sports, 4-H, etc.)for about $550 per month. We shop discount stores like Aldi's. I also go to Wal-Mart for some items (mostly the paper & soap products) that tend tp be more expensive in stores that are primarily food. I make about 2 trips per month total for groceries. If my freezer were bigger I wouldn't even go that often because I would freeze bread, milk & fruit/veggies like I used to when I still had the big freezer. I am 1 of those people who learned to stock up as well. I grew up in an area that flooded frequently & roads did not get cleared in winter. You could easily survive on what I have stockpiled for 3-4 months if necessary. We never go hungry here. If all else fails, the birds feed us...lol
do you have a dollar store close to you? alot of times i go there and get items for a dollar, i always get my fabric softer there along with some other items, sometimes even food items, our dollar store even put a cooler in and now has country ham(the really salty stuff that we love and can't find except at cracker barrel) check it out sometime

maybe because thats the way he was raised and he wants to live like city folks? my husband grew up the same way and his mother taught me, i learned because i love my husband and to be honest, i enjoy it alot too, i never had to know this stuff when i was growing up, momma always did everything(i was spoilt) but never canned, she did freeze stuff tho and everything was from scratch, like i said, the good ole days.

I find with store brand veggies, meat on special, fresh potatoes or yams, I can cook so much cheaper. Microwave makes it easy to bake a potato and do veggies. Meat is on the grill s lot.
But bulk packs of lunchmeat and freeze in small packs.ditto bacon on sale.
I used to eat all prepared food, but the salt and fat content is bad for me. I do keep some on hand for a quick meal, but try not to make it a habit.
Best thing to have its a lot of freezer space.

I'll jump back in to second the freezer space....the best get I ever found was at a Ginardies(sp)...bought out by Giant....went the day after easter and found frozen turkeys on sale for 10 cents/lb....bought three 15lbers...that has only happened once, but, you can save alot of money and a freezer uses less electricity than a TV....even was thinking of moving mine outside (but protected) during the winter...

FINALLY the doctor is going to run tests on my son! He is going to the hospital now. Hopefully they run the right tests and find out whats wrong with him.Thank you for all your support.

Hope things work out...don't be afraid to push....sometimes making folks uncomfortable is the only way to get their attention....my two cents...
