is that Longwood gardens?

Looks like the thousand-bloom is doing well this year.  That's a very nice picture of the conservatory.

I met my wife when she first came into town to work an internship at Longwood.  And one of my oldest and dearest friends is a desktop technician there.

Nice. Does your wife still work in horticulture? We Re-joined last weekend and I'm trying to get there as much as possible.

I was lucky enough to meet Chiqueschicks turkey's, I can definitely see myself getting attached. I especially love the noise they make.

I met Chiques' turkeys today also, but they weren't making much noise! ; )

Oh, that's funny.

Do these meal worm beetles stay put? Or do you sometimes find them cruising around your house? Stink bugs have traumatized me...every shadow and spot is a potential stink bug...no matter where I am. I don't think I could willingly bring bugs into my house.

@Lisa, it's usually pretty warm right next to the fridge where the motor is running, or maybe just close to one of your heat registers....?

We have never had an escapee.... We have ours in small, clear plastic storage bins with lids that snap on rather tight, we cut a 3" square hole in the center of the lid and taped in very fine mesh (like the kind you would use in a screen door). We did tape both the underside and top side of the hole around the mesh and so far never had trouble. I think as long as they have food and environment which suits them they don't bother too much with trying to go anywhere.

first order of the day......I have 5 days off......YAY for me....will I get work done or sit on my bum....I vote bum

I have been keeping mealworms for quite a few years, They are kept in a simple rubbermaid tote like most would use for a brooder ,,,no lid, never had any escape,,,I use plain old fashioned oatmeal and sprinkle some oatbran on top about every six months...I have them in an old tv cabinet with doors...they like the dark.....I also throw a handful of baby carrots on top every sunday.

Ray...Galgo....any one else that's local give a loud shout next time you are near me, I have 1000's of these mealworms would gladly share, just need time to go thru them.

We do not call them mealworms at my house,,, they are known as chicken crack.

Hello Everyone!

I tried to catch up on my reading but I was behind 100 or so posts and gave up. I hope everyone is ready for Thanksgiving. I'm jealous of all of you that get to eat your own birds! I'm thinking next year I might try but I have sooo much to learn. I've never processed any of my birds before.

Anyone else itching for Spring time so they can get some new chicks? I want to fire up the incubator so bad but I don't want to keep the chicks in the house until they are ready to go out in the cold. So right now I have to be happy just making up my wish list!

My White Rocks are 8 months old and yesterday I found my first brown egg!!!!!! We haven't had any fresh eggs for over 2 months. I was beyond excited. I made BLT's for dinner and fried the egg for my hubby's sandwich. lol. I figured he deserved it after building the new coop.

I have no layers right now. I haven't had an egg in about a month and I have been really really craving them lately. I had to resort to *shiver* buying cage free eggs. From THE STORE. *cries* I gave my girls a stern talking to, but then decided that they deserve a few months off.

...they were doing really well too...they had gone from worm to beetles..didn't get a chance to do the next step.

**Lisa, it does take awhile for them to "change"..and they have to have it warm, a little humid..and dark. Pretty much what everyone else is saying.
**Blarney..they don't fly & they will stay were you put them..no worries.
