I can't seem to keep up with the thread lately... I missed the last 200 or so posts!

Today was pen cleaning day. Man, I just set these pens and cages up! I also just cleaned a couple of the pens out less than 2wks ago. We've been having issues with the waterers leaking and of course, it makes a stinky mess in the pens. The first time I was hanging the waterers and Devon (son) was not putting enough water in them for them to hang straight. This time he decided to let them sit crooked and let the spouts face the wrong way. He does not pay attention to what he's doing. I just did the waterers with him 2-3 days ago and the back pen was not a gross slop hole. Yesterday it was. So, off to buy shavings.

I will say this much, it used to take us a whole day to do all the pens. It took us less than 4hrs. I even made shavings keepers for in front of the pen doors. At least the shed doesn't stink anymore.

"SHAVINGS KEEPERS" - This sounds like what I need for my indoor chickens. I lose so much out of the front of the cages and it is so aggravating!
How did you make them?

slow cook that bird, and remember that the older the bird the more flavor you will get from the meat..will not be much meat on a leghorn but what you do get will be very flavorful..

I would go crockpot and then make a chicken corn soup in the broth.

does this mean that you will have an opening for a new rooster ??

Hahaha! Wing, I was wondering the same myself! Always looking for good homes for roosters...

Geez wing...I thought that was just a family shot......

on another note: my chooks have decided to dust off in the deep pine shaving in the coop....yuck....a good reason to clean the coop.....

It is amazing how far those birds can throw bedding...I use straw an just put 1 big pile in, come back in an hour and check, but they do a fine job of spreading the straw by themselves.

since I have to work 3 to 3 today this will be my day........It really is like romper room in that place...I am also scheduled to work with the newbies, most are in the age range of 19 to 25.....OH what fun..

Well. Taking the dog to the E-Vets today. He was limping yesterday and today he's in so much pain in his front legs he can't stand up. I think it may be Lyme's Disease.

Please say a prayer if you can.

Wing, thanks. I'm just trying to be clear on where I stand.

Stake, that sure is funny coming from you, who know all 7 of my brothers. STILL haven't started the hard cider...maybe today?

Yes, I'd say straw is in order today with all the mud we've got out there. I got the goat pen cleaned up a bit today before the rain -I have a path on the hill that I walk along to hay the goats, I'm contemplating putting shavings down there to keep from slipping when my arms are full. Just HATE to waste shavings.

Well I just got home. Our dog does have Lyme's disease. We have him on some meds and hopefully he'll be feeling better in a few days. So glad it wasn't anything worse.

awwww did they give antibiotics? what is the treatment? One of the ladies who purchased a pup from me had issues with lymes as well.

Was the leg lameness the main inclination? I assume they draw blood for lymes tests .

I will pray he feels better fast, I have RA and I know the pain the poor guy. :*(
