I have been researching which heritage type of turkey that would be best for my future needs, and the Narragansett seems to have many things that I am looking for. I have been told that the hens are excellent mothers, and they have a deep natural instinct for laying and also hatching thier own chicks. (no incubator needed). Also I have read somewhere that this breed has one of the best immune systems and are pretty hardy.
I have located a source almost in my back yard. On monday I will be picking up his last 2 Narragansetts. But he does have quite a few other breeds of turkeys and chickens, so he is a poultry breeder.
I will pass on his info if anyone who lives close to the Lebanon, Pa area.
His name is Kevin Harnish and his phone # is 717- 821-7848
He has Slates,Red Bourbons, and I think he said Spanish Blacks. He also has a vast amount of chicken breeds.
He will sell direct to you right off the farm.

I had bourbon reds last year. They were very good and no problem to raise. Not sure what I want this year. Beaglady has narras and I'll probably get eggs from here. I'm open to several breeds and willing to hatch.

Well I came home Thursday to see that my chick's have outgrown there tote and were walkind around, so they have been moved inside a dog crate....some pics of them flying the coup So I have hired security personal to stand guard and make sure they are staying put. Also switched their water to nipples and glad they picked up on it so quick, will be putting system like this in my coup.
They are so adorable! And your security guard looks like they are doing an excellent job!

What do you give them for calcium?

You got new birds!!! I remember you saying you wanted some! What breed?

I give them oyster shells in a small bowl that they can have any time they want and there is calcium in their layer food. Should I add more to their food perhaps?

I got a Black Australorpe and a Golden Laced Wyandotte from the same guy I got my first 2 birds from. He raises them for me till they are 4 months old. I',m not really equipped to deal with baby chicks. I was supposed to get 2 of each of them but one died the day after he got the chicks and I decided not to take the one Blackie as she was more dominant & I was hoping to avoid battles when I was introducing them together. Hubby really wanted to take both Blackies but I was reluctant. I really want a Silver Laced Wyandotte to add to the group if I can get one. He is trying to get 1 for me from the people he gets his chicks from,

I have slates & palms & want narris, sweetgrass, bourbons & midget whites. I'll also be raising out some broad breasted to go with my cornish x broilers. I only want a pair to quad of each heritage breed.

She's supposed to let me know when she starts hatching. I'm wanting poults from her too. I'll let you know.

also looking for midget white if you know of any

Those are on my wish list too. She may have those as well.
I found a local source for broad breasted @ $5 per poult if you are interested in those. Only extra cost would be shipping. Need to get on his list soon though. I have 10 reserved but can call him to add to the order.
