I heard the weekend storm may fizzle out before it gets to pa......

please tell me it's true..need to go check on that..

not sure I like the melting that's going on today,,,I have gone down on my knee twice today with sliding in the mud,,, once was in the duck pen.....which answers the question of what if I would be unconcious in a pen........I got pinched twice till they realized the bucket I just spilled was their food.

So I guess that means you better always have food with you when you enter a pen...

As for that storm...it's gonna hit here first...grrrr

I just heard it is not going to be much, more of a clipper with a few inches maybe.

My girls finally decided the strike was over. 2 blue eggs Monday, 1 blue egg Tuesday & today I got 1 blue, 1 cream & 1 medium brown. YAYYYY!!!!

I know the feeling, mine are slowly picking up also, I am getting about 4 eggs outta 20 hens now.

I have 17 hens & 3 roos out there. With moving twice in less than a month, no run on the new coop yet, nasty weather, 2 goats I had to ground from the coop for feather plucking & finally getting lights up out there last week...I'm amazed I'm getting eggs already & they aren't frozen. Now if I could just get the ducks, turkeys & geese in gear too we will be doing good.

Wow, yeah I could see why you weren't getting any, we added 7 silver laced Wyandotte to our group and added a bunch of nesting boxes and they quit laying for awhile. Now if the weather cooperates and I can get them to quit sleeping in the nesting boxes life would be good.

I have been getting eggs now for about a week, and the boys seem to be busy,,,,,anyone want to test fertility??? pm me your addy and i can send eggs..

pens that I know are laying regular and should be fertile...

muscovy
pekin (could be mules, muscovy drake seems to like those girls better..)
white bresse, I do have 1 oe roo in there also right now
I always have the layer pen , which is a rainbow of eggs and birds.


I will not be seperating any breeds till the weather changes though, I prefer to keep enough in a pen for warmth.

only thing I can guarantee pure are the muscovy, those pekin drakes are to afraid of the muscovies to even try.

Hey, whatever works! I hung a cabbage on a cord thing today to give them something to do, it was pretty good size and it was maybe couple hours and they ate over half of it, I walk out and they run to me...lol. This is my first winter with chickens, they are so cute and funny.
