I've got 2 layers that throw a lavender/purple tint occasionally, but this is a duck. First time I've seen a duck egg with purple tint.

Oh yeah that is neat. I know Anconas are ducks. But I was so busy admiring how pretty the egg was. It didn't even dawn on me just how awesome it is that your duck is laying tinted eggs. Pretty things quite often distract my simple minded self XD

I figured you were talking about a duck just because I've been eavesdropping on your past few posts and you were talking about your ducks. And there's Anconas listed in your siggie. My powers of deductive reasoning told me so. ^_^


Speaking of ducks, I never knew there are miniature ducks. When we were at the farm show a few weeks back we saw them for the first time.
Most adorable things I've ever seen I think. My older daughter really wants ducks. Been trying to figure out how I can do it for her. Since we don't have a ton of room and I know they tend to be muddy. Could they be kept in a raised run and coop? Do they need to have water to slop in to be happy?

Just going off of childhood memories, our ducks had a wading pool and basically a self made mud wallow inside their run around the wading pool. Muddy and stinky my husband will NOT be happy about, big baby that he is.

I usually have my call ducks in a rabbit cage style pen up off the ground. I don't free range so it works best for me that way since they are so little. A suggestion when doing your pen: Make sure the door is big enough for you to lean in far enough to reach all corners or that you have several sections with exterior doors you can reach into & dividers that can be closed between sections to allow you to reach birds easily. Can't count the number of times I have literally stuffed my son in the cage to reach a duck...lol
The good thing is that calls are small & much easier for a child to hold than standard ducks. My kids carry my calls all over the place.

Oh, and my calls were happy with a dish pan for a pool. 2-3 could fit in at once since they are so tiny. We also hosed them & their pen daily (weather permitting) to keep everything clean. They loved their daily shower!!!

Oh boy, the electric just came on!!!! There is heat and there will be hot water coming...even though I fared better than a lot with the wood stove and small generator, I do prefer civilization. Hope everyone is back on the grid.

The Anconas are laying! 4 eggs in 3 days. 1 of the 2 from today has an almost purple tint to it.

Yippee!! it's a great feeling when our kids uummmmI mean ducks start to cooperate with us...

good to know since I will have those indies coming, talked to the guy with the auction, even if I do not get these one's he will have another hatch.
