If I remember right, she only has heat in the broody hut.It reminds me of my outhouse at my other house, I love rustic stuff so you know I love this double decker! Fisher I forget if you said you provide any heating or no? sorry I forget everything, unintentionallyfisherlady, I love how you used natural branches for roost and the tree stumps..![]()
I have tried traps of all kinds for English sparrows with next to no results.
Don't mind feeding the song birds black oil sunflower but those pests are eating way too much.
This afternoon the .22 has gone 5/5 on those buggers.

I agree, I understand folks enjoying the beach... but I love farm land, fences and barns... there is not much prettier than a snow covered tree or fence line.AND?????????????????? your place is more gorgeous by a long shot!
There is nothing in the condo... in the main coop we have lamps over the waterers, we are researching alternatives because I don't care for the large lamps because I don't want the light, the lizard lamps aren't quite enough for the 1 gallon water jugs. DH works full days and on days I work it is 10 hours+ before he could change them out and we don't want them going without water that long. Dog bowls work until it hits about 25 though, so 90% of an average winter we don't have to use any heat. Light is only on as a byproduct of the heat lamp, hence my searching for alternatives so we can let the hen's cycle however they naturally would. It reminds me of my outhouse at my other house, I love rustic stuff so you know I love this double decker! Heat in the broody hut is a lamp (ceramic) to keep the water thawed for the broody and chicks... the lizard lights (as I call them) are 90 watt I think. It has very little impact on the general temperature, but does keep the water good for 8 hours or so since it is directly over it. It is only on in temps under mid 20 degrees or so, the hens body temp seems to actually keep the broody hut warmer by a couple of degrees without help. (we keep a thermometer in the broody hut just out of curiosity, it is amazing how much difference there gets to be with just her in it)If I remember right, she only has heat in the broody hut.
