Sending prayers for you & your family.
I have a pretty good story to tell about my chickens this evening. Today I let my chickens outside the run area for the first time in awhile, and they stuck around the coop for awhile because it was shoveled. They then walked my shoveled path that runs from the deck to the coop, and then hopped over a span of about 6 feet of snow to get to a green area. The green area was right above my septic system, and was about 30 feet in diameter from the snow melted by the heat of the septic contents. It was great for the chickens. This area was about 50 feet from the coop. The real fun part came at dusk, when they had to figure out how to get back to the coop. They were all walking around trying to find a clear path back to the coop, because I guess they forgot they walked over a 6 foot span of snow. After a lot of confusion, 3 of the 5 figured out how to get back on the path and back to the coop. 2 of the 5, I guess the stupid ones, never followed. After a lot of confusion, one decided to try to fly across 50 feet of straight snow to get to the coop. Half way through though, her foot hit the snow and she took a face plant into the snow, mean but probably the funniest thing I ever saw. Then she just stood there and didn't move, and about 15 minutes later I carried her into the coop. Meanwhile, the other one just gave up and was looking for a place to roost in a bush. I had to carry that one in. I sat there and watched the sequence of events for a good half hour, it was a lot funnier and entertaining then I could describe!
Nuthin like chick tv...lol

Stopped at Calico. They are getting their pullets in starting in 2 weeks. The hatchery name starts with a P but I don't remember what it was. Got out of Wally World with a cart full but under $300. That should last us a bit, until I need critter food.

I have an ice rink the entire area around the chicken run-yard..everywhere I have to walk, even just to get them...been a couple close calls, but fingers are crossed it will melt entirely and all I will have to walk in is 3-4 inches of water! hahahha, I would take that right now!!...I had to throw some of the snow BACK onto the ice so I could get a little foot hold...crazy! I love winter, BUT i am ready for this to be done..I am to old for this anymore

Shoutout to my first pupa! :celebrate I found another one too. Once the beetles hatch and lay eggs, I'll put them all back together. I heard that it's okay to keep everything together.

Wing, what do you do? Just let the different stages rock out together? Or seperate? I have 1000 in a 10 gallon tank.

I started laughing after reading this..had to read it to the hubby...so funny!! Chickens are crazy-confused birds, we all need to hang chicken cameras around, well, maybe not..I wouldn't get too much done if I did that..

So cute!!! My goodness, what a doll-baby!!

Littlemisspurdy-I'm not even going to attempt to quote any of that with my phone lol but yeah, why is it the dogs get it first? The one in the picture, Sparkles, is actually the puppy of our "pack". She just turned 2. Our other two, Rocky and Dreamy are 9 and 10 years old. I see that unaided look quite often lol. I'm just glad they can both still keep up with Sparks when they want too lol. This whole new chicken venture is going to be quite the adventure with training those 3. I'm actually less concerned about the puppy and a lot more concerned about the older two.

wingstone--------------prayers or heart felt thoughts are with you!

I have found that whenever someone in my family or when I might be considering the effects of a serious illness..........it really does change my overall perspective on things.

Some of the things I had been worried or stressed about fall away..........into the no biggie pile..........and a whole new view of things takes shape.............we all only have one life.........sometimes I forget that and get hung up on some of the small stuff...........

again.........thinking about you and hoping my prayers/ thoughts may help in some way!
