I always keep a bowl of water in mine. Don't want them to become shrink wrapped if at all possible. Then closer to lockdown I add a sponge or something like a rag that can stick up above the water level (it helps to bring up the humidity). That's what I do anyhow. Others will probably have a different method.

Everyone eventually finds what works for them.

Alright, yeah in time I'll find out what works, some ideas will help to get me started.

TC:

For humidity, I think you can get a decent one in a cigar shop....make sure it can be calibrated....there is a simple process involving salt to calibrate it.

For Thermometers, that's tough because most of the cheap ones are not accurate or may take hours to reflect the accurate temp....I would suggest an old fashioned mercury human thermometer...

I am building a coolerbater and found a digital thermostat. It was about $20.00...I believe it to be accurate....there are some youtubes on building coolerbaters that you can see it....my two cents.
Ok, thanks for your two cents...lol. All advice will help me at this point!

Hi Folks:

Brought one of my GLWs inside today....she's been acting a bit weird that past two days and has passed up on getting some scratch the past two days....She is still alert but lethargic...and still is holding her tail up....and she seems to always have her feathers puffed up.....

When I brought her, I thought I noticed her neck seemed swollen....my guess is wry neck....so, I ground up two of my centrium muliti-vits in a 1/2 gal of water and added a dose of tetracycline...

When she got settled I added a bowl of crumbles which she ignored and put the water in with her...she took a drink...after a day or two, I'll dilute the water mixture some more....and she'll be getting some HB egg yolks to eat daily....

If I am messing this up, somebody let me know!!!

Added, after being inside for 1/2hr, she ate some crumble....I dunno whats going on....

Quote: everybody has a different way because the season and the house will be different,,,,I do things very different in winter than I would in summer,,,,,,,temperature fluctuating in the house can be a huge thing, and in the winter with electric heat my house is dry so it affects the humidity, while in the summer time I can go from 10% humidity to 70% humidity in the incubator without touching anything, and it happens overnight...you might want to keep notes and look for patterns that way you will expect changes....

and on a side note, the best hatch I ever had was one that got put in the incubator, no water, no turner, and I forgot about it until I heard chirping,,,at that point I left it alone, figured they did fine without my messing with them...

good luck, I never had a chicken with this, but I do get a few quail like that,,,,,

can not speak for the chicken but the quail will do fine afterward the initial treatment,,,all I do is seperate them at breeding time so as to not pass the wry neck along.

hopefully it is nothing and she is just a little under the weather..
