good evening folks.....just got back from the vets....major $$$ spent....(too much)....well, it would seem my girl has an infected crop....not impacted, but probably too much grit or just too sensitive to it...so, she'd going to be inside for the next 10 days having me shovel meds down her throat a couple of times a day....

For Silkie:

My friend the vet tech has a chicken who lost her feet to frost bite...she pulled out a tongue depresser and was looking for how to attach it to her chicks feet....I suggested using the casing of a of a syringe....when I picked up my girl the footies had been made using vet tape...I'll get some feedback on how the fitting goes...and some pics for you....

I'm working on pretty much the same thing right now. What'd you pick for your temp controller?

Actually, what'd you pick for your humidity monitor? That's the thing I'm really struggling with.

LC:

Got a STC 1000... still haven't made a final decision on the humidity,,,I think the cigar shop has stuff a tad better than HomeDepot....and less expensive the professional stuff....

This really blows !!!

we had 20(yes cat math) last summer, only one tom would catch rats, husband did a better job shooting them with a 22 when he saw one. Now we have three cats, all toms.

2 of the cats belong to my roommate & are rather lazy but my 3 all have the same momma who is an exceptional mouser & taught her babies well. She was even known to bring them garter snakes (still alive) to bat around my kitchen floor. We no longer have momma (she gave us 2 litters of 6 last year & went to a new home with the runt from the last litter. We kept a boy from the first litter & 2 boys & a girl from the second litter. The female hit her first heat much younger than expected, but I promised my son another kitty when we lost his to a coyote in January while moving. I'll let her have this litter since it's such a good mouser line so my son can replace his kitty & then she will be getting spayed. Any remaining kittens who haven't found homes will go to the next swap meet after weaning & find nice farm homes as barn cats with a reputation as good mouser stock.

My only unspayed female just came into her first heat & all 3 intact males have been taking turns with her. We'll have kittens before summer.
Just take her in to be spayed now. Don't let the kittens develop. God knows every shelter is overflowing with them.

See above.

Stumpy actually gets around great with just vet wrap cushions on his stumps. I rewrap him about every 3-4 days & keep him on clean, dry bedding. I've even seen him jump completely over the feed bowl to the waterer & barely open his wings to do it. He's a tough little bird.
