Off topic, but you requested it. My Amaryllis have started to bloom! (These are nifty ones I got at our local Produce Junction for dirt cheap. They coat the bulbs in wax so that no water is necessary, and then they are forced. We'll see if I can save them after they bloom for next year...

SHHHHH dont tell anyone this but....

RIR are my most fav chickens, and the only ones I friend besides Harmony's serama.

I love the reds! I love BR as well, and am totally torn between them. I want one or the other but I think RIR.

Another big point is that I can keep them with the CCL because I can tell eggs apart. Blue vs Tan easy to spot

who is who. So its a win win for me as I dont need yet another coop! I sell hatching eggs from my layer pen, these mutt eggs sell well locally and most times I dont have breakfast to eat
hmm.png
. So the mutts are from the CCL over what hens I am down to, one loner BR and a light brahma the kids have befriended and I cant sell her. So I was already missing RIR.

I know I should control the dogs, but they are fenced in, the dumb chickens went to them

I was expecting you to tell us the RIR made the CCL's lay better. That they somehow inspired them to higher productivity!

The real reason is somewhat . . . well, disappointing.

I guess finding them from an NPIP flock will be your big challenge. Could you get them and keep them in quarantine until a tester can prove their worthiness to add to your main flock?

I have been catching small mice in my mousetraps................still not big critter.........but I see their footprints in the snow!

I will need to double check the trap to be sure its set up good...........I want to get the big critter more than the little mice.

the small mice don't really bother me that much but an R ...........that's different and let me tell you I DONT LIKE IT!

Got any close up pics of the tracks?

I am satisified with the CCL hens laying abilities thus far, praying it continues.

Now talk about amazingness..... I can tell you how impressed I am with our WFBS! They were amazing through summer heat, through the wet weather and ACED and I said ACED this wacked out winter! not a spec on the combs, and lay like bejimminies all winter long, never had a broody either! I can guarantee eggs in those nests as all other nest are empty! Amazingly impressed all around, even incubating, they take flux in temps and I had 35 in the bator day 18 and EVERY single one hatched and over and over they hatch well! I am waiting for larger WHITE eggs so far I have 48/50 mg average, no one is helping me with an average egg size for them, I had one hit on a WFS group and said 50-55 is their average. I am rambling on these guys, but they do deserve justice as they are simply amazing.

ps..... I have found some with help of Freds Hen ;) gorgeous HRIR to boot

Thanks, if you look close, you can see a third flower (yes flower, not leaf) stalk coming up. Never had 3 flower stalks on an amaryllis before! :D

That does seem a little small, the smallest eggs I've been hatching are from Breda Fowl, and they are around 49-54 g. I assume you mean grams (g) and not milligrams (mg)

Some of the eggs from older EE's are 70+ (it's hard to find anything wrong with EE's, very under-rated IMO)

Even the NH pullet eggs are 55-58 grams and I am hoping they get a lot larger.

What size eggs do your CCL's lay?

Quote: I havent weighed a CCL as those are big and easily seen, its the wfbs that are causing me to question, not alot of people are helping out or some just dont understand why I care lol they have been laying for well over 7 months I would think they would be larger by now. <shrugs> no clue I guess I could see if there is an association or something instead of the FB groups and threads on here
