Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Question to all of you dual bird folks (chicken and duck)...... do any of you house them together? I just read two different threads, and it seems to go both ways.... and some said they feed the same feed to both.... any input, I am considering adding 2 ducks to our little abode. I think I might have BIRD FEVER!! Or mid life crisis... lol.
I feed all the same, they do get different treats.....and the housing for me depends on the breed of duck and chickens...and also my rooster count at the time.......I have never had a drake hurt a chicken but I have had roosters hurting ducks

Here are some pics of the chicks that came out of the eggs that Wing sold me.

Wing, there are a lot of black chicks. What do you have that they might be from.?

-sigh- My midget white turkey eggs came a day later than I expected, so they got set today instead of yesterday. My eggs from my turkeys got set Friday (some per pushing 5-6 days old). I can see now this is going to be a seriously messed up hatch. I can't wait for the automatic water bucket for the Sportsman. It will make these staggered hatches so much easier on me.

Do you have a separate hatcher, or do you hatch in the bottom of your Sportsman?
I'm working on a separate hatcher because while raising the humidity to hatch is easy, I think it's detrimental to the rest of eggs to have the 70% RH for a few days until the hatch is complete.

I guess I'm also curious about how having the water bucket makes the staggered hatches easier.

love those pictures and the lacey background is a really cute touch!

I am trying to follow a coturnix quail thread on here and honestly I am rather confused about how the forum and threads are really organized.

I don't know how I found this one.............but I am so glad that I did!

I want to find a coturnix quail thread that is a little active ............like this thread

seems like a lot of the info is not current people navigating their questions etc.

any recs on this?

when I do searches I have not found particularly useful leads.................I tried the advance search...........not really an improvement.

maybe its not there?

there are a lot of forums or threads..............that are not active and only a few pages long............

these are great pics, your hired for my advertising team.......really as far as black goes, I have the silkie and the SLW mix and also a mottled java, they would be the only black colored roo's,,,,,

can the color also come from the hen, then I would have to add almost all of the flock to that list.......

that second pic with the thick legs, I would bet comes from my delaware/orp rooster,,,,I hatched a bunch of test birds from that combo and they looked just like that one.

Have you tried a general search on google? A lot of long time quail keeper and breeders have put up instructional pages. I found a wealth of info there, and any questions you still have will be very well informed and specific. Those are the questions that get the experienced people involved. asking "how do I keep quail" is too broad for them to respond too because general info is all over the net.

thought of the slow cooker buit I like to do enough at a time to last about 6 months...and yes ... I let it cool and skim the fat before canning it
guess it would take alot of slow cookers to do what you want, the canning, but since i'm mostly home now days i can just keep a slow cooker going at all times for the broth, i want to try other broths next, chicken, pork, maybe even rabbit when i get some young to butcher.
